Museum Tours

Kids at MAMMiami Art Museum’s lively, interactive museum tours for kindergarten through twelfth grade students form the centerpiece of MAM & Schools.  These inquiry-based tours are designed to develop an understanding of modern and contemporary art while encouraging self expression at every grade level. Tours foster observation, analysis and interpretation, complementing school curriculum and promoting the critical thinking skills emphasized by Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) guidelines. Led by MAM's professional gallery teachers, visits are approximately 90 minutes in length and culminate in an interactive exercise.

The museum offers tours Tuesdays through Fridays at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. throughout the academic year. Tour admission for students and chaperones is complimentary.

MAM in the Classroom

The Museum’s professional gallery teachers, artists themselves, can visit your classroom with a work of art and engage students in observation and a lively discussion.  Classroom visits include an activity and last approximately one hour.  Interdisciplinary, post visit materials are provided for the teacher.  Classroom visits are available Monday through Friday between 9am and 1pm.

Please contact education@miamiartmuseum.org for more information.

This program is funded by the Heckscher Foundation for Children.

Self-Guided Visits

High school teachers may choose to bring their classes to the Museum, on their own, to address a particular area of the curriculum. Please notify education in advance to ensure your trip does not coincide with other group visits. Self-guided visits may take place in the morning but please note museum-led tours take precedence.  One chaperone is required for every ten students. Free for all students with valid ID.

Scholastic Art Awards and Exhibition

In conjunction with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, MAM hosts the Scholastic Art Awards and Exhibition each year in January.  The exhibition showcases the best work of young artists in both public and private schools. Students, teachers, families and friends from throughout the county celebrate the awards on the Cultural Plaza.  Winners go on to compete at the national level.
