Assistant Director for Collections and Exhibitions

The Miami Art Museum, a modern and contemporary art museum, seeks energetic, experienced registrar/administrator to implement and maintain the highest standards of museum practice in museum registration and collections management procedures, as well as exhibition development and execution. Responsibilities include maintaining collection, loan, conservation, exhibition, insurance, and location records; handling loan agreements, deeds of gift, and exhibition contracts; supervising the internal an external movement of collections and art on loan; and managing rights and reproduction services. Additionally, the registrar is responsible for contracting outside services including conservation, packing, crating, shipping, and insurance; and overseeing exhibition planning and installation. The Administrator for Collection and Exhibitions/Senior Registrar, who reports to the director, supervises registration and exhibition preparation staff and is responsible for general oversight of budgetary information and expenditures for the department. Significant interaction with donors, collectors, trustees and all museum staff. MAM is undergoing an exciting period of expansion, with new building plans underway, set to open in 2012. The collections and exhibitions administrator will have input into the layout and planning of the new collections storage, preparation, and exhibition areas. Additionally, they will work closely with curatorial staff to manage the safe and efficient transfer of collections into the storage and exhibitions area in new facility. International Candidates Will Be Considered. Bachelor’s degree required; 10 years museum registration experience or like; must be extremely well-organized with excellent computer and oral and written communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable.
