The MAM Soundbomb Bus
- Where: Various locations
- When: Schedule and programs subject to change
- Admission: The MAM Soundbomb Bus is free. However, the main events associated with individual programs are subject to their own entrance fees
Introducing the MAM Soundbomb Bus – a classic 1970s Volkswagen Minibus has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind ‘sound bus’ that will travel to various locations and bring the best of Miami music vinyl cultures with live DJ sets, album-inspired art-making and information about The Record exhibition.
The MAM Soundbomb Bus is modeled after the tradition of the Jamaican Sound System trucks, which involves various disc jockeys building a roving Sound System with speakers and DJ equipment on a flatbed truck, and throwing impromptu block parties in neighboring towns. These Sound System trucks (often dubbed “Soundclash Trucks”) were popular in the mid-80s to early-90s underground music scene amid various urban communities in Miami-Dade County. Some famous Sound Systems from Miami include DJ Uncle Al, DJ Uncle Luke (Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew), Jam Pony Express, and Black Chiney Jamaican Sound System.
