Youth and Family Programs

MAM offers an array of fun programs and activities for families at the museum and in the community throughout the year.

Second Saturdays are Free for Families
Every Second Saturday from 1 - 4pm. Free.
This free monthly program for drop-in visitors features fun hands-on activities for children and adults. Second Saturdays also include occasional live music, storytelling, guided tours, gallery games, and dance performances. This is a fun-filled afternoon for children and adults to explore the museum, learn something new, create art and enjoy time together.

Family Festival
Organized by Miami Art Museum, this special "Second Saturdays are Free for Families" day, held each April, fills the Miami-Dade Cultural Plaza with a variety of games and activities. Children and their families are invited to spend the afternoon and take part in a number of art-related activities.  MAM Family Festival 2009 information.

Visitors Gallery
Designed for visitors of all ages, these interactive spaces in our Plaza Level and Upper Level galleries feature reading materials, videos, writing stations, and hands-on activities intended to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of MAM's collection and exhibitions.

MAM in the Neighborhood
The free MAM in the Neighborhood s ummer program consists of:

  • Site-visits to a wide range of community centers throughout Miami-Dade County by MAM's trained gallery teachers.
  • Museum visits focusing on exhibition tours led by gallery teachers.
  • MAM Funpacks.  All young people participating in MAM in the Neighborhood receive a Funpack filled with art supplies and activities that encourage them to use the exhibition as a springboard for creating their own artwork.
  • Post-visit activities to be conducted by community organization staff using supplies provided by MAM.

For more information on how your group can participate in the 2009 MAM in the Neighborhood call the Education Office at 305.375.4073.

MAM Art Caravan
During the school year, this program brings free art projects for children and their families to community fairs and celebrations in under-served areas. Passes for free museum admission are distributed.

Brick by Brick
Brick by Brick is an innovative after school program aimed at teens who live near the Museum's new home in Museum Park.  It uses MAM’s building project to inspire integrated problem-solving and provide direct experience in fields such as architecture, computer graphics, geography, landscape design and sociology.  To get the latest update on Brick by Brick from the participants themselves, check the Brick by Brick blog at http://mambxb.blogspot.com.
